Tayshaun Prince: cousin transfers to play with Vols’

Former Iowa forward Tyler Smith and former Arizona guard J.P. Prince , transfers to play at Tennessee this coming season. Smith, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound sophomore, left Iowa shortly after former coach Steve Alford bolted for New Mexico.

Smith and Arizona transfer J.P. Prince, who sat out last season under NCAA rules, should bolster the Volunteers’ front court. Prince, a cousin of Detroit Pistons star Tayshaun Prince, averaged two points and two rebounds in 28 games at Arizona in 2005-06. The 6-foot-6 Prince had lost the backup point guard job to freshman Nic Wise. Prince said he left on good terms with the coaches and his teammates. espn

Kenny Rogers out pitched Smoltz for a 5 nothing win over the Atlanta Braves. Tigers had a scare in the 8th inning when Maglio Ordonez was hit by a pitch - x-ray’s were negative.

What a debut for Kenny Rogers.Making his first start of the season after a blood clot was removed from his pitching shoulder, Rogers allowed only two hits in six innings to lead the Detroit Tigers past the punchless Atlanta Braves 5-0 on Friday night. mlive




Tigers trade Maroth to clear roster spot

It’s still unknown who the Detroit Tigers will get in-return for Mike Maroth. But for now it saves a spot for the recently acquired Tiger from Atlanta Macay McBride

“Seeking to bolster their rotation, the Cardinals have acquired left-handed pitcher Mike Maroth from the Tigers, FOXSports.com has learned. The trade is the Tigers’ second in three days as they prepare for the returns of left-handers Kenny Rogers and Nate Robertson from the disabled list.”
